Mac OS isn't ready from scratch to recieve data from Android phones. I wanted to transfer some files from my phone Motorola G5 to my Macbook Air M1 using my USB chord. So I plugged everything in but nothing happened.
After searching the web for a while I decided to download the application "Android File Transfer".
You can find it here:
It was easy to install and I was directly able to navigate the folder structure on the phone.
The best thing was that I did not need to "sync" some library or something like that.
On the phone I had to choose from "Charge via USB" and set to "Transfer files". Then it just worked on the Macbook and I could open the application and a Finder like window popped up and I could just copy the files I needed over to a folder on the Macbook.
A highly recommended application for Mac and Macbooks.
It looks like this when phone is not connected.
